Summary

A results-oriented leader with more than 17 years of engagement in development interventions with more than 10 years of experience in managing development projects, until recently, I was working with Democracy International (DI) in the capacity of Deputy Director, Local Governance, being engaged with work plan and operational plan development, facilitating strategic meetings with state and non-state actors and organizing Local Government reform commission’s dialogues with citizen to identify reform agenda as part of Bangladesh’s interim government’s efforts to facilitate reforms in various sectors of the State. Previously, I worked with DI in the capacity of Deputy Director, Advocacy, being engaged in program development and management for political harmony and multiparty, strengthening accountability of authorities, people management, program and financial planning and revision, preparing reports for donors, preparing political analysis and maintaining relations with political parties. I also contributed to resource mobilization team in developing new projects. Before joining DI, I worked with BRAC, managing a development project focusing case management services including multi-sectoral referral services for the survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) and promoting awareness in the community to enhance a community-driven prevention of and response to GBV. My role at BRAC also included managing relationships with the donor and partners and concerned state and non-state actors, preparing and revising work plans, performance indicators and budget and preparing technical reports. As regards GBV, I was previously engaged with the implementation of a project at Odhikar, which focused enhancing capacity of women human rights defenders in investigating and reporting GBV and mobilizing community to push for strengthened state efforts to respond to GBV. Previously, I also worked with ActionAid for three and a half years as a thematic expert for civic and political participation of young people. In that capacity, I led advocacy in diverse areas of youth leadership development including representation of young women and men in the political decision-making structures at the local, national and international levels. Mobilizing the media to advance the agenda of youth participation in democratic spaces was another area in which I significantly contributed while working with ActionAid. I also managed and assessed partnerships and several pieces of research into issues of youth engagement in decision-making structures while working with ActionAid. Before joining ActionAid, I worked with Democracy International for one year, co-managing a project focusing on political empowerment of women in major political parties of Bangladesh. In that capacity, I played a key role in rolling out fellowship program for women’s leadership development and promoting participation of young women at various levels of decision-making in major political parties. Working with people from various ethnic, national, gender-diverse and other backgrounds, I have developed a stronger capacity to work in a culturally diversified and sensitive environment and a pluralist attitude. Interpersonal communications capacity is another strength that I have developed. Throughout my career, I have been marked as particularly outstanding in analysis, report writing and communications. Seasoned Deputy Director with wealth of continual process and operation improvement experience. Successfully oversees daily operations, planning and quality control and develops and monitors resources. Broad history in establishing standard operating procedures and tracking and reporting processes, tools and information flows. Actively engages direct reports to achieve business goals, tracks progress toward goals and increases effectiveness and efficiency of leaders.

  • Worked with the project development team to develop the project titled Responsive Local Governance, which was funded by the United States Agency for International Development

While pursuing my under-graduation at the University of Dhaka, I was a cadet of the Dhaka University Contingent of the Naval Wing of Bangladesh National Cadet Corps. As a cadet, I participated in the flood response of 1998 floods that severely affected Dhaka and its surrounding areas. Being a cadet, I also participated in the team of volunteers supporting the management of law and order during big national festivals or international cricket tournaments. I am a regular cyclist, a marathoner, a trekker and yoga practitioner. These practices make me fit for physically demanding and mentally stressful tasks in difficult situations.
